Hi, I’m Joe and this is my ham radio blog! If you haven't found me through QRZ.com then here's a link to my profile there. I’m from southeast Alabama, in the tri-state area, near Georgia & Florida. I’m a father of five: two sons and three daughters. My oldest daughter, Ariel, is also a ham under her call-sign, KQ4BNL. Of course, as a father, this makes me incredibly proud because I believe that our youth are the future in the literal sense and in the way they carry on our values, hobbies, and traditions.
So, on this blog I will share things related to ham radio, as well as things related to my other hobbies. Some of my other interests include woodworking, model rocketry, retro-computing/gaming, Linux, BSD Unix, network/network security, raising birds, tropical fish, camping, nature, and gardening. Hopefully, in reading my blog, you will find new knowledge or at least something to make you smile. Please, feel free to drop me a line with any feedback or questions.
Okay.. So, it's August 2023 and I have left this up here mostly because I've been busy with other things. I'm just going to leave it for now so it'll be here in a few months when Christmas rolls back around. :)

August 2023 - Some updates are coming..
I have just finished setting up VARA, PAT (Winlink Client), and FLRIG on Debian (Bookworm) for our HAM Radio emergency communications. I plan to do a write up on it soon. It took me the majority of an evening to do but thanks to a YT video by KM4ACK, I got pointed in the right direction and mostly it was easy. It was a simple thing that I got confused on, of course.. It's always the easy and/or simple things that confuse me. :)
Here's a screenshot of it working.
Until later..
73 to you and yours!
